Now you are set up for some manual trading runs, check for cheap wares (Energy Cells are a good start) and also check for some stations that will buy your stuff before you purchase anything. You want to buy the maximum amount of Engine Tunings and the Trading System extension (this allows you to remotely check prices and buy and sell stuff with all your ships and not just the one you are in right now.) Of course you need to stay away from any combat, if you feel safer this way you can keep one shield around to absorb the damage of potential collisions. As a punishment the game will give you a crappy ship instead, but you now got your own ship AND some extensions. There is a trick you can do, sell the 25MW shields and buy a Mercury with some equipment. The deal with the Argon Express is that they only borrow you the ship, and after you are done with your mission they will take it away again. The higher difficulties are really frustrating if you don't exactly know how the game functions. I suggest starting on easy, it only will affect your starting resources.
